We'll all be dead (not really)

I couldn't really think of a funny way to start this post so I'm just going to say this.
Hey,
I'm back,
Once again.

In case some of you haven't noticed, a new member has joined our group. His name is Pete and he's an adopted pet penguin (of sorts). You'll be able to find him at the bottom of the page, on his own iceberg, it's pretty little though (thanks global warming!). You can feed him fish if you want, and for all you jerks and mean people reading this, if you click on him enough he falls off his iceberg. I'm totally one of those jerks and mean people by the way, I think I spent the first hour after I got him just pushing him in the water. Whatever, he's not real, so who cares.

Anyway, my subject for today is going to be slightly more serious and maybe even a bit more sad than the previous three - sorry guys, so if you were just reading this because you thought I'd be joking around the whole time again, change you're perspective on this post because this one's different - because I'm going to be talking about the future. The future's a scary thing isn't it. It's scary because we don't know what will happen, and as humans, we instinctively fear what we dont know. But in this case, knowing might not exactly help stop that fear.

Global warming is happening. And it's much worse than we could ever imagine. In my opinion, we, as the entire human race, are reaching the turning point. I truly believe, as a species, this is the greatest challenge we shall face.

As everybody know's (or atleast should know), the ice caps in the north are melting. As you can see in this video, their melting a lot.

But you know what I think. I don't think people care. I don't think people give a damn what happens up north, I mean, it's so far away, so why should we?
I'm sure you've all heard that one myth that talks about if all the ice melts, the oceans will rise up and we'll all drown right? No? Well now you have. Anyway, this myth actual has quite a bit of truth too it. If the ice in Antarctica melt, global water levels will actually be raised by about 60 meters. That's a lot considering New York, New Orleans, Miami and Hollywood are all under 10 meters from sea levels. That means they would all be flooded six times over. That's pretty scary if you ask me. So those ice caps that are melting so far away, will actually be flooding places that aren't far away.

That's not all, the bee's are also dying. Now I know what you're thinking '''' Their bees! Who cares!!''''. Well, we should care. It is believed that 1 out of every 3 bites of food we have need pollen to survive. Bee's are responsible for pollinating over 80% of all the plants in the world. As you should know, there are places in this world that are starving right now, because there isn't enough food for everyone. Without bee's, we would be cutting our food supply by atleast one third. One third is an extremly large amount of food.
It's not just plants that would suffer either, the lack of food would go all the way up the food chain so their would be less meat to eat as well.

These are just two of the reasons why global warming is so important. And in my opinion (and apparently Obama's as well) it will be the greatest obstacle the human race is yet to face. And I believe it will only get worse, much worse because we aren't doing enough to fix this problem.
I don't think enough is changing for the climate to return to it's natural temperature. Mesures must be taken to fix this climate soon or it will get worse and worse.

If any of you would like me to talk about something specific about climate change, just leave a comment about it and I'll do my best to write a post about it.

Till next time (I promise my next post won't be as serious)
Matt

Disasters get heated up

What up readers!
I'm in a writing kind of mood today so I decided ''Hey, why not write another post that has almost nothing to do with climate change and is mostly me talking about random stuff''. Great idea right? To be honest I'm actually pretty proud of myself right now. Normally, I'm the type of guy that would procrastinate and do all 10 posts (that's the amount we need to pass) about two days before exams. For those of you who know me, you'll know that's not an exaggeration, I would literally start two days before. That's what I did for most of my Civics exam last semester.
But not this time. No sir. This time, I'm actually ahead of the class (I think?). I know, pretty crazy right. But hey, that's what I do, I amaze people. It's a talent of mine.

Anyway, back to the point. Today, I'm going to be talking about whether global warming as an effect on natural disasters. To be honest I don't really think it would but I could be wrong.

So, I haven't researched this subject yet just so I could talk about my opinion on this subject beforehand. Like I said, I don't think global warming will have much of an effect on natural disasters since to me, they're two completely different things. Now, if I'm wrong just remember I didn't research this yet, so don't shoot me (metaphorically). For example, in geography class last year we learned most natural disasters have to do with the movement of the tectonic plates, and when they hit each other it creates earthquakes and tsunamis.
Since these plates are so far underground, I highly doubt the change in climate is even reaching them, let alone changing anything about them or how they move.

Ok, so now I'm going to go research the subject I previously mentioned.
So just give me a second, ok?

...

Ok, so as it turns out I was wrong. So very wrong. I'm pretty surprised since I'm pretty much never wrong. Like, ever. Ok, so maybe that's a slight exaggeration. Could be, who know's?

Well actually, I know, and like I said earlier, I was wrong. Climate change does indeed have an affect on the natural disasters of the earth. While the link between the tectonic plates is very small, and as of yet, unproven. I forgot that these weren't the only natural disasters (oops, my bad). As an example, there are hurricanes and tornadoes. And these disasters are indeed affected by the warming of our planet. They are affected, very much so in fact.

As you know, or atleast should know, hurricanes and tornadoes are caused almost entirely by the wind. And the wind is entirely depending on the heat of the earth. So if the world does in fact warm up (as it is currently doing now) then the winds will, in turn be affected as well.

The effect of this will pretty much make storms appear less often. Sounds pretty good right? WRONG!!! While it's true what I said earlier, there will be much less storms. However, the storms that do happen will be extremely more intense and much bigger than they would have been.

So in short, it could turn a small storm like this...

Into something like this...

Or even something like this...

Looks like fun to be living there doesn't it?
Also, these pictures were taken from storms that have already happened. And as I said, with global warming getting worse and worse, these storms will continue to get even worse then they are now. Even worse than they are in these pictures. And that seems pretty bad to me. They could get turned into an uber mega storm! (Turns out uber is a real word in english so I shouldn't get in trouble by my english teacher for writing it).

These storms could get so bad they could look like this...

Ok, so that also was a slight exaggeration but you get my point

The fact that these disasters will get even worse than they are now, means there is yet another reason why global warming is so important. And why I believe we should take this matter more seriously and address this situation as soon as possible.

If you want more information on natural disasters, check out my friends website:

Also, I did some other research, and turns out greenhouse gases got their name because they're doing the same thing that a greenhouse does to the plants. A greenhouse lets the sunlight in, but it doesn't let it out so easily, so a lot more of it stays inside the greenhouse. The gases in the atmosphere are doing that to the earth. And if more sunlight stays in the earth's atmosphere then that means it'll start heating up, like it's doing now. I believe Ricky had said something like this in a comment earlier. Good job Ricky. You're smart!

Till next time,
Matt

Just Causes

Guess who's back.
Back again.
No, whatever. First I'd like to talk about the things I added to my blog since my first post. If you noticed on the right side there's a little game with a penguin that has a slight link with global warming, so I put it there. I thought that, as the game goes on, your iceberg gets smaller and it's harder to finish the game, like with global warming.
Another thing, if you haven't noticed, right above this should be a picture of a shark! If it's not there, I probably messed up somehow, just tell me in the comments and I'll try and fix it. Either way, what I added should be a bunch of randomn pictures of sharks that changes every day. I put those sharks there for two reasons. One, sharks are awesome and deserve to be on my blog. And two, the climate change is affecting the sharks lifestyle (I'm going to write an entire post about that) so I thought it would be ok to add them.

Anyway as this is my second post and I should probably start talking about my actual subject or my teacher will get mad at me, here it is. Global warming and climat change. So today I'm going to doing a brief overview of some of the main causes of global warming and what could be done to reduce said problems.

So, in short, global warming is mainly caused by us humans. More precisely, the air pollution we produce called greenhouse gases (turns out they're not actually green. Who knew?). Now, greenhouse gases come from a lot of different things, most of it comes from the exhaust of cars, factories (like in the picture!) and the production of electricity (Surprisingly, greenhouses don't produce any greenhouse gases so I'm kind of confused as to why it's called that). All of these things produce carbon dioxyde (CO2) or other gases which do pretty much the same thing.

Now I think some ways that we could stop global warming, or atleast slow it down is to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. Obviously. Since one of the main contributors to greenhouse gases is the exhaust from cars, I think we should continue to try to get fully electric cars since they don't produce CO2. And if that doesn't happen then I think we should make a type a filter that goes over the end of the exhaust pipe so it doesn't get in the air.

Once again, till next time,
Matt,

Not so Frozen anymore

Well hello there,

This is my first blog that I kind of have to make for school in order for me to not fail 10th grade English. You see, when I first thought of this project I had an amazing idea for a subject. So, I was planning on doing this blog on movies so I could just write about Frozen all day long (Because Frozen is awesome, did you know they're making a second). But it was not to be, the project has to be about a subject that's socially relevant in the world right now, so not Frozen, and then I blanked about a subject. I thought, thought and thought some more but still to no avail. Then I realized, in Frozen, Elsa totally froze the whole country right? And isn't that the exact opposite of what's happening to the earth with all of that global warming stuff going on? That's it! I'll do my blog on global warming! I'm a genius!

Well, to be more precise, the subject my blog won't be global warming but on climate change. I thought this would be better as it's a broader subject and encompasses not only global warming, but also all the other anomalies that have to do with the earth's climate. And so, since there's more to talk about there would be more to write about as well. To be honest, I think this plan to get an A deserves an A. Anyway, since climate change has a lot of facts and statistics this is mostly going to be a research blog. And I’m pretty much just going to be discussing the causes and effects of climate change in the world right now.

Anyway, that’s all I’m writing about today. I’ll start to actually talk about global warming and climate change on my next post.

Till next time, Matt
