Disasters get heated up

What up readers!
I'm in a writing kind of mood today so I decided ''Hey, why not write another post that has almost nothing to do with climate change and is mostly me talking about random stuff''. Great idea right? To be honest I'm actually pretty proud of myself right now. Normally, I'm the type of guy that would procrastinate and do all 10 posts (that's the amount we need to pass) about two days before exams. For those of you who know me, you'll know that's not an exaggeration, I would literally start two days before. That's what I did for most of my Civics exam last semester.
But not this time. No sir. This time, I'm actually ahead of the class (I think?). I know, pretty crazy right. But hey, that's what I do, I amaze people. It's a talent of mine.

Anyway, back to the point. Today, I'm going to be talking about whether global warming as an effect on natural disasters. To be honest I don't really think it would but I could be wrong.

So, I haven't researched this subject yet just so I could talk about my opinion on this subject beforehand. Like I said, I don't think global warming will have much of an effect on natural disasters since to me, they're two completely different things. Now, if I'm wrong just remember I didn't research this yet, so don't shoot me (metaphorically). For example, in geography class last year we learned most natural disasters have to do with the movement of the tectonic plates, and when they hit each other it creates earthquakes and tsunamis.
Since these plates are so far underground, I highly doubt the change in climate is even reaching them, let alone changing anything about them or how they move.

Ok, so now I'm going to go research the subject I previously mentioned.
So just give me a second, ok?

...

Ok, so as it turns out I was wrong. So very wrong. I'm pretty surprised since I'm pretty much never wrong. Like, ever. Ok, so maybe that's a slight exaggeration. Could be, who know's?

Well actually, I know, and like I said earlier, I was wrong. Climate change does indeed have an affect on the natural disasters of the earth. While the link between the tectonic plates is very small, and as of yet, unproven. I forgot that these weren't the only natural disasters (oops, my bad). As an example, there are hurricanes and tornadoes. And these disasters are indeed affected by the warming of our planet. They are affected, very much so in fact.

As you know, or atleast should know, hurricanes and tornadoes are caused almost entirely by the wind. And the wind is entirely depending on the heat of the earth. So if the world does in fact warm up (as it is currently doing now) then the winds will, in turn be affected as well.

The effect of this will pretty much make storms appear less often. Sounds pretty good right? WRONG!!! While it's true what I said earlier, there will be much less storms. However, the storms that do happen will be extremely more intense and much bigger than they would have been.

So in short, it could turn a small storm like this...

Into something like this...

Or even something like this...

Looks like fun to be living there doesn't it?
Also, these pictures were taken from storms that have already happened. And as I said, with global warming getting worse and worse, these storms will continue to get even worse then they are now. Even worse than they are in these pictures. And that seems pretty bad to me. They could get turned into an uber mega storm! (Turns out uber is a real word in english so I shouldn't get in trouble by my english teacher for writing it).

These storms could get so bad they could look like this...

Ok, so that also was a slight exaggeration but you get my point

The fact that these disasters will get even worse than they are now, means there is yet another reason why global warming is so important. And why I believe we should take this matter more seriously and address this situation as soon as possible.

Also, I did some other research, and turns out greenhouse gases got their name because they're doing the same thing that a greenhouse does to the plants. A greenhouse lets the sunlight in, but it doesn't let it out so easily, so a lot more of it stays inside the greenhouse. The gases in the atmosphere are doing that to the earth. And if more sunlight stays in the earth's atmosphere then that means it'll start heating up, like it's doing now. I believe Ricky had said something like this in a comment earlier. Good job Ricky. You're smart!

Till next time,
Matt

Nailed it!

  1. Hey Matt! Again, your post is very original because you include lots of yourself in it. Really makes the reading fun! I'm surprised that you remember things from Geography last year, then again, with the amount of studying we needed, how could we forget? Anyway, I'm looking forward to your next blog post. What will you discuss? Keep writing!
